We haven't always had February

But now we have CNN 

And Comcast and Xfinity

Isn’t technology grand?

Isn’t modernity great?

Yes indeed!

The revolution will get televised

So that you don’t have to participate...

Pushbutton activism

Point and click protests

Facebook a cause and email a petition

I wonder if fiber optics can carry winds of patriotic sedition?

Hmmmm… might be...

It jumped off that way when the Arab Spring took root

And in Alabama when the sistas gave that racist Judge the boot 

Isn’t amazing – the human spirit?

No shackles or tanks or white house waterboards

Can keep in it confined one place

Oppression will make it flee this reality

To run free, butt naked into cyberspace

Seeds of liberty obviously can be planted

And they sprout – in cracks and crevasses

Not permeated by shadows of 

Seeds that srout questions against the

Gov’ment, "the-way-it-is"…Jim Crow…and Status quo

Can we start a revolution?

A revolt

An uprising

Can we protest liquor stores on every corner

Of every ghetto, and of every reservation?

Can we protest churches on the other corners
Who can't seem to get rid of those liquor stores...?

Can we protest the ineptitude of my Muslim brothas and sisters

Whose national pride has mutated ever time

Into disbelieving dictators –

And, lemme protest this country’s disbelieving dictators

Who send kids to fight their battles

To prop up other disbelieving dictators

With palms outstretched and slippery

Greased by the fluid we inject in our SUVs

Let me protest SUVs

that we drive daily unapologetic-ally

On city streets?

Lemme protest immigration - I'm talking directly to

All you people clamoring to come across our borders

Because, in truth, I believe there aint enough of you comin’…

You need to bring your cousin, neighbor and sons and daughters

Can I protest a balanced budget?

Cuz I continue to wonder

How we balance out the scales

By closing down inner city schools

And opening up shiny new jails

I’ma protest islamophobia

And American scholastic stupidity

Cuz we don’t know our own history

Like: There are 7 cities in the US named after Mecca
And you can blame Muslims for having to take Algebra

Shout out to Dave Chappelle and Shaq

And the white boy who rapped with the House of Pain

Oh, and TPain

Cuz they're all Muslim in the Brain

I’ma protest Muslims too

Who keep wondering how I could wear a baseball cap and prison tats

And still be muslim but not from another country

If I get another "where are you or your parents from?"

Or, "Can your recite any Quran?"

Or,  "do you follow Farakhan?"

I’ma lose my damn mind

I'ma protest my brothas abroad

Who can find a rape victim guilty of adultery

Who sling opium to the world

 to buy ak47s to shoot bullets at little girls

Lets protest these kids shooting up the hoods they rent in
Their schools and malls
Yet let dudes like Zimmerman walk with is head tall
Shout out to Boosie who gave us a brief ray of hope and our hearts a start
Cuz we could actually believe he'd be at a Walmart

We havent always had February
But we have always had the truth that 

Black History is has always simply been History

That we don't even remember well

4 weeks and one day is not enough time for all the stories we can tell

And it aint just black

But brown and yellow and bronze
